GATEWAY LOCATION

78 Holland Ave is a 2 story brick structure: The first floor is 4000sq ft, with a concrete floor.  It also has the original, still functional fireplace. The 2nd floor is 4500sq ft, with original wood flooring. There are 44 available parking spaces.  Magnificent views of Downtown Morgantown.

This site has an impressive history.  Built in 1927, it served as the site for the Westover Volunteer Fire Department and City Hall.  Westover had the first volunteer fire department in Monongalia County and thus responded to fires throughout Monongalia County as well as assisting Morgantown Fire Department when needed. The first meetings of the Department were held at the West Side Garage, but were moved to Westover Council Chambers in February of 1929. The meeting site was moved again in 1932 to the Wright Building at 78 Holland Avenue.

The building also housed the Westover community center at that time.  The back half of the 2nd floor still has the original hardwood floors from  the dance hall.  The front served as the Fire Chief's living quarters.

After the fire company moved out, a few retail endeavors took place, each sharing the space for an extended time.  There was a craft shop, a bridal shop, and the Morgantown telephone answering service.  A prominent architect from the area practiced his trade in the 2nd floor of the building.

Today the location has many options, as a gateway into Westover and amazing panorama of Morgantown, the possibilities are endless.  It would be the perfect location for an upscale restaurant; A magnificent condo for people to live and overlook the city, while you watch annual fireworks events.

Neighboring the building's parking lot is St. Mary's Orthodox Church, on the National Historic Register.  Built in the early 1900s.
